Craftsmanship with roots
I’m Jacob, the maker behind 2 Cats Sawdust Company. Born and raised in a small town outside of Raleigh, North Carolina, where people shake hands, keep their word, and take pride in what they do. I learned early on in life that quality isn’t an upgrade. It’s the standard.
Raised small town. Built on hard work. Driven by craft.
I grew up surrounded by people who believed in doing things the right way, even if it took longer, and even if no one else noticed. As a kid growing up playing baseball, my father was a believer in the old saying “practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.” That value is the foundation of everything I build today.
In a world where so much of what we buy is disposable, fast, and mass produced, woodworking became my way of preserving something important.
Real craftsmanship.
Real materials.
Real human hands shaping something with intention.
What started as a hobby turned into a passion, and eventually a business rooted in the same principles I grew up with: Work hard, be honest, and do things the right way. In this case, that means build things that last.
Why I Started 2 Cats Sawdust Company
Admittedly, I didn’t grow up woodworking. Outside of 5 year old Jacob having a short lived childhood dream of being part-time carpenter, part-time architect, and part-time Major League baseball player living in Spain who travelled home on the weekends… I never so much as looked at a piece of wood and considered the possibility of making something. Fast forward 25 years later…I’m a carpenter.
My journey into woodworking started in 2022 when my wife and I bought our first house. My wife wanted built-in bookshelves in her office because she loves to read and it doubled as a nice showpiece as soon as you walked through the front door. As I stumbled my way through that project I quickly fell into something that can only be described as an obsession for all things woodworking.
To create the kind of furniture people used to build…and keep
As I dove deeper into my obsession, it wasn’t long before I discovered the importance of the craft and how master craftsman and artisans helped shape our history by hand with every shaving of their plane. You see these sculpted pieces of lumber everywhere you look in history from royal palaces, the White House, and historic New England furniture built in the early days of our Country. I also took note of how modernization and mass production has all but wiped out the true artisans of this world. I propose that you and I do our part to change that.
My goal wasn’t just to start a woodworking shop. It was to bring back a standard of quality that’s rare today.
Most furniture is made to look good online and fall apart in a few years. Markets are so saturated with particle board furniture that people are struggling to even remember what real solid furniture looks like. That doesn’t sit right with me.
At 2 Cats Sawdust Company, we build pieces that feel different. Heirloom quality furniture and cabinetry you can see, touch, and trust.
Pieces with Soul. Pieces with character. Pieces meant to stay with you.
My philosophy: Craftmanship isn’t a trend. It’s a responsibility.
Every board is hand-selected.
Every joint is cut with intention.
Every detail receives attention that mass production simply cannot give.
I believe woodworking is an art form worth protecting. My mission is to make sure homes today have furniture with the same longevity, warmth, and story as homes of generations past. Because good craftsmanship doesn’t just fill a space. It elevates it.
Quality over quantity. Always.
When you work with me, you’re not getting a factory product. You’re getting a one-at-a-time, built-by-hand, designed-for-your-home piece of craftsmanship.
I focus on
Honest materials
Timeless designs
Precision joinery
Functional beauty
Long-lasting construction
No matter what, every piece that leaves my shop meets a simple standard: Would I proudly put this in my own home? If the answer isn’t yes, it doesn’t ship.
